As such, we ask that you prayerfully complete this form, evaluating each question honestly based on your knowledge of the nominee’s qualifications for the office of Deacon for Immanuel Baptist Church.

Deacon Nominations

Thank you for taking the time to participate in the Deacon nomination process. These are significant days at Immanuel, and we look forward to the service qualified Deacons will bring to the church.

Being a Deacon is an important role. It is one of two offices God has instituted for His church; the other being Elder. As such, we ask that you assess the qualities of the men that you nominate. Please begin the process with thoughtful prayer and by reading Paul’s description of Deacon in 1 Timothy 3:8-12.

RECOMMENDING A DEACON

This form is to be completed by a CHURCH MEMBER recommending another CHURCH MEMBER for the position of Deacon. The form is to be completed without consultation with the man being nominated, and is to be submitted by September 25th, 2026.

INITIAL DEACON SELECTION PROCESS

The current Elders and Deacons of Immanuel will review the Deacon Nomination Forms. As the Deacon Nominee Review Committee they will evaluate the recommendations made and approve those men whom they believe are spiritually qualified to be interviewed. The committee will then approach these men asking if they are willing to be interviewed and to serve as a Deacon if approved by the committee and the Church. Once the Review Committee has approved qualified men who are willing to serve, their names will be brought before the Church for approval.

BIBLICAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR DEACON

1 Timothy 3:8-12 (ESV)

Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well.
